CVC = Card Value Code

CVC – Card Value Code

Der Card Value Code (CVC) ist ein Sicherheitsmerkmal bei Kreditkarten. Er befindet sich normalerweise im oberen rechten Teil des Unterschriftenfeld auf der Rückseite von Kreditkarten – bei American Express befindet er sich auf der Vorderseite im rechten Bereich oberhalb der Kreditkartennummer. Es handelt sich dabei um 3 bis 4 Ziffern, die zusätzlich zum Namen des Kreditkartenbesitzers und zum Ablaufdatum abgefragt werden, wenn Käufe beispielsweise online abgewickelt werden.

Der CVC-Code soll als Sicherheitsfaktor fungieren und sicherstellen, dass die Karte tatsächlich vorliegt.
